The U.S. Capitol Dome!

On of the highlights of Heather and Peter's visit was that I got to arrange a dome tour of the Capitol for them! I've done the dome tour a number of times but I can't say that I have ever had as nice weather as we did this time ~ I'm sure it was because it was Heather and Peter's first time up the dome:). The stairs up into the dome are rather steep and hot, since you are pretty much sandwiched between two big sheets of iron or steel or what ever they made that dome from. The view down into the rotunda from the inside has always terrified me, even though I have never had problems with heights I do in this situation. The outside view on the other hand is fantastic!! We had a beautiful view from the west front of the Capitol of the mall with all the tents still up from the Smithsonian Folklife Festival and then on the east front you can see the the new visitors center with the two huge skylights on top. The new visitors center is pretty cool and I really like the little film they put together. I'm so glad that it turned out to be such nice day for a dome tour for my lovely sister and her super cool sig. other:):).
